7 coffee cocktails to keep you buzzin’ through 2017 (and no, the espresso martini isn’t one of them!)

Espresso martinis are so 2016!

Just playin’. The espresso martini will always be cocktail royalty. But coffee and alcohol are just so good together, it would be wrong not to see what else is out there.

So here are seven of our other favourite coffee cocktails for you to try. From the no-messing-around Bronx Bomber to the unexpected Midori Matcha, there is something here for every coffee lover!

Let’s drink!

Black Matter Coffee Roasters Perth cold brew bourbon cocktail  

Cold brew bourbon cocktail

60 ml bourbon

180 ml cold brew coffee

2 tsp sugar syrup

Double cream to serve

Combine sugar syrup, bourbon and coffee in a cocktail shaker, fill with ice and stir until mixture is thoroughly chilled. Pour into a rocks glass and top with double cream to serve.

 

Love buzz

45 ml vodka

15 ml crème de cacao

30 ml raspberry puree

1 shot room temp espresso (our juicy, effervescent 6017 Blend works really well for this one)

Shake all ingredients and strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with raspberries and shaved chocolate.

The Truffle

30 ml Frangelico

30 ml vodka

30 ml cold espresso

Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously and strain into a glass.

 

Midori Matcha

1 tsp matcha green tea powder

120 ml coconut water

60 ml Midori liquour

45 ml cold brew coffee

Combine matcha powder and coconut water in a cocktail shaker and shake. Add Midori, coffee and ice, shake well. Strain into a tall glass over fresh ice.

Mocha Latte

2 shots cold espresso

60 ml Kahlua

120 ml milk

3 tbsp chocolate syrup

Combine all ingredients in a glass filled with ice and stir.

 

Bronx bomber

2 shots cold espresso

1 tsp absinthe

45 ml gin

Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously and strain into a glass.

Irish coffee jelly shots

1 cup strongly brewed coffee

1 cup Irish whiskey

¼ cup milk

¼ cup cream

½ cup Bailey’s Irish Cream

3 packets gelatin powder

16 shot glasses, lightly coated with cooking spray

Coffee layer

Whisk together the coffee and a ½ cup of water in a medium saucepan. Sprinkle 2 gelatin packets over the top and let it soften for 5 minutes. Over a medium heat, whisk until gelatin has dissolved – do not let it boil. Remove from heat and stir in the Irish whiskey. Fill the shot glasses two thirds full with this mixture and set in the fridge for about 4 hours.

Cream layer

In a small saucepan, mix together the milk, cream and ½ cup of water. Sprinkle the gelatin from the remaining packet over the top and let it soften for five minutes, before whisking until it dissolves. Do not let it boil. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the Baileys.

Top up your shot glasses with the creamy Bailey’s mixture and then leave to set for another four hours.

Serve and enjoy!
